College in High School Courses
College in High School Courses
Our College in High School (CHS) partnership with Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC). Through the CHS program, students are able to earn college credits while completing courses with our own Leechburg High School faculty.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in enrolling must have a GPA of 2.5 or above to register for CHS classes. Students are also responsible for paying the tuition for the classes; Westmoreland County residents will pay approximately $60 per credit ($180 for a three-credit class/$240 for a four-credit class); Armstrong County residents, $120 per credit ($360 for a three-credit class/$480 for a four-credit class). The approximate costs are based on last year’s tuition rates and are subject to finalization through WCCC. A limited number of scholarships are available through WCCC. For those who have applied in the past, most have received at least a partial scholarship.
The list of all approved courses is below; however, course offerings are based on the academic schedule. Not all approved courses will be offered in a given academic year.
These are advanced-level classes that are taught at the college level. If students enrolled in the eligible courses do not choose to receive the college credits, they do not have to pay for the college credits but can still remain in the class and receive local high school credit. Regardless of whether or not a student registers to receive college credits, the course work is the same.
Please complete the enclosed preliminary registration form if you are interested in being enrolled in one or more of the CHS courses for the 2021-2022 school year. Please return the form to the Guidance Office or to Mrs. Jolynn Young by Monday, August 30, 2021. Shortly after forms are returned, I will meet with students to officially register them for their CHS courses through Westmoreland County Community College.
This is a truly unique opportunity for families to save money on college tuition and for students to get ahead and better prepare for the rigor of college-level course work, and we hope that many will take advantage of the resources we are able to provide. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Jolynn Young.
